Professional summary

I am a practising photographer studying A Level photography at Long Road Sixth Form College. I have extensive knowledge of the subject through my two years of studying AS and A level photography. Out of college I continue my hobby with great enthusiasm and commitment.

Qualifications

I have 10 GCSE’S ranging from grades D – B in subjects such as: Maths certificate, English literature, English language, History, Music, French NVQ, Film studies, psychology and Applied sciences. I have gained these grades during my time at Long Road Sixth Form and Parkside academies.

I have recently completed AS photography and a level 2 Diploma in media focusing on various projects such as a superhero movie with special effects, a two-minute animation and a scriptwriting unit.

Work experience

Over the last year my photography has gained more recognition through the use of social networks like Flickr and Instagram. I have had my work put into a local gallery through a friend’s project focusing on the lifestyle of skateboarding. I have had a photo put onto the Fujifilm’s website which they seemed to be impressed with. They have also asked for more of my images for use on their Instagram and their main website. I have recently done a shoot for three musicians who were playing in my current place of work, I sent them over some of the images and they were very pleased and they look forward to using them on their online pages, such as Facebook and Soundcloud.

Before last year I would not have had my work shown at all so I feel like it is quite an achievement having all of this recognition in one year.

Personal skills and qualities

Over the past few years I have had experiences in various areas of the working world such as the catering industry, retail and even Indian take away via bicycle. These experiences and changes have really helped me develop a lot of essential skills such as strong communication skills, effective time management, the ability to work within a group or individually and I am always happy to participate in a task. I think these skills are rather well rounded to give me quite a wide range of skills in different areas and situations.

I have had an interest in skateboarding for as long as I can remember, I have been skateboarding for around 12 years now. I try to combine my two hobbies as much as I can. Luckily they go hand in hand and I can’t see myself without an interest in either.

Evaluation
I am undecided on wether I want to go to university or not yet. If I do it wouldn't be for a while until I figured out what I really want to do there. Photography is the most interesting and vast subject to me. I would love to extend my skills and develop new styles and learn more about it. But I am not sure university is right for me. I would prefer a traineeship or apprenticeship that would give me the skills to develop myself as a photographer. I have been doing little jobs for friends and family recently and it gives me a taste on what it could be like. I am really interested in working in different types of photography.

Addressing my skills and resources
There are a lot of skills and qualities that I wish to pick up along the way of whatever it is that I do. There are a lot of technical skills that I could pick up through going to university and a lot of things that I could expand on and develop. There is also a lot of experience that I could gain through working with small production companies that are willing to give apprenticeships. Obviously through travelling around Europe there are countless things to gain in terms of experience, personally and educationally. The opportunity of meeting new people is amazing, It would be an amazing chance to get out and see a different side of things and to try and get involved in various projects that could develop my skills in photography.



Contingency Plan
If my plan does not work out of going to LCC to study photography, I would take a year out and travel around Europe taking photos and meeting people i.e skateboarders, who might be looking for someone to either film a video for them or two just take pictures either of an event or their store or company. My ideal location for this is Barcelona. I wish to spend a penultimate amount of time there.

Personal Resources Audit

Evaluation
My strengths mainly revolve around photography, I have a very advanced Fuji camera which is my main source of work. It also can record 1080p videos which come out perfectly. I know how to use this camera as well as a Canon or Nikon DSLR this would be helpful on a set as I would sometimes have to work with what I am given and I am confident I would be able to use equipment given to me.

My weaknesses mainly consist of not owning a mac book with the relevant software on for post production. I do not own a tripod which could hinder a filming job a lot. Or a night time photo shoot. I need to develop a few certain skills such as editing and post production of films.

My contacts and opportunities are rather scarse but I would be able to talk to various people that I know. I know two people who run a skateboarding filming company, in which I could propose the idea of some sort of traineeship or work experience. I also know various artists who would like to have photos taken for their personal website. I have been asked to take photos at a wedding before and I also have been offered the opportunity from a friend's dad who is a wedding photographer to shadow him while he takes photos at a wedding.

- My main interests are photography, skateboarding and I have enjoyed short film making.
- I have worked on a range of projects with fellow students at Long Road including a short introduction to a superhero film, a short documentary on Music therapy and health care, a short animation, working on a poster advertisement for a real cycle hire company and a music video for a Cambridge band called 'Villa Savoye'

Evaluation
Over all I feel like I have well rounded qualities and experience but there are certain things that I feel I could improve on, such as the technical side to either film making or editing. I feel like I have the correct skills to participate in a a group activity or project but there are certain technical elements to a project that I need to develop. I know my way around a camera and I could create competent shots with professional outcome, however the post production of a film is slightly vague to me and I feel like editing is not a strong point of mine.
